Planetary Rings Tutorial
Hey again this is another tutorial made by me on how to add those rings you see around some planets out there. Also the tutorial to make this planet i'm using can be found HERE or you can just add this effect to any of your other planets.

Ok lets do this.

1. Lets start by making a new layer (Ctrl + shift + N) and set your chosen default colors to black and white or by pressing (D). Now grab the paint bucket tool (G) and fill your new layer with black. Go to Filter > Render > Clouds just do this once now go to Filter > Distort > Twirl and put the angle up to 999 degrees. Repeat this 4 times (Ctrl + f) or as many times as you like until you have got a nice spiral shape happening.

2. Now that we have a nice spiralling effect happening here lets grab the Eraser Tool (E) set the brush to a Soft Round brush at around 200 px to start off with in the middle at 100% Opacity. Then as you start with erasing the outer edge make the brush size smaller around 90 - 110 px. Make it as round as you can doesn't have to be perfect. Below is what I ended up with you should have something that looks like that.

3. Press Ctrl + T and squash the rings to fit around our planet. Now position the rings over your planet to where you want them if needed you can stretch and angle the rings how ever you like. You also might need to zoom out more to position them just right.

4. Lets grab that eraser (E) again. Now delete part of the rings that should be behind the planet and out of sight, also use the Burn and Dodge Tool to high light where the light is coming from and where the shadows are. I used the dodge tool on Highlights and 10% Exposure and the Burn tool on Midtones/Highlights and 20% Exposure. Also dont have Exposure set too high as it can become too powerful so start low.

5. Also I sometimes like to color my rings to suit with the planet I make. Ctrl + U, check Colorize and choose any color that you like this is what I had it set to.
